Why do we wear red/black?

All of the things that we do are called Mobilization.

According to Webster mobilization means: to assemble and make ready for battle.

2009 contract negotiations is OUR battle to fight AT&T’s corporate greed, and get the fair contract we all need and deserve.

Wearing Red started in 1989 when a CWA Local 1103 Brother, Gerry Horgan, lost his life on a picket line, fighting to protect his family’s benefits, and his rights & working conditions.   Gerry was killed by a SCAB while he was standing up for what he believed in.

In honor of Gerry, and the thousands of other hard working men and women that paid the ultimate sacrifice and lost their lives fighting for the rights, wages and benefits we enjoy today, we started wearing red on Thursdays across the country.

We began wearing black on Fridays to mourn the thousands of Union jobs being lost as AT&T started mass layoffs after divestiture in 1983.

Wearing red (every day until we get a contract) and black on Fridays, not only pays respect, but more importantly it shows the company that we are UNITED in our battle to get and keep the benefits, wages and working conditions that we deserve, and the company can clearly afford to maintain.

You Can’t Win Alone, as a UNION we can!
