Why it is important to vote "YES" for strike authorization

ASK CWA

Volume 9 Issue 3, March 2009

Nationwide CWA Locals will be conducting a strike authorization vote in March 2009.

CWA Local 7250 members at 901 Marquette will be voting (on break or lunch)

Wednesday March 4 from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM in the 9th floor conference room. All other locations will vote by mail.

You will also sign up for picket duty, and fill out forms needed to get paid in the event of a strike.

Q. What happens if we vote “NO” for the strike?

A. Voting “NO” means that you don't want CWA to have any leverage against AT&T at the bargaining table. Voting “NO” means that you no longer want company paid medical, dental, vision or legal benefits. Voting “NO” means that you think AT&T pays you too much money for the work that you do. Voting “NO” means that you don’t care if you have a job with AT&T in the future. Voting “NO” means that you are willing to take whatever it is that AT&T wants to stick us with.

“YES” vote does not mean that we will be on the picket line for sure April 5th or at all during bargaining. In fact, over 98% of all union contracts are settled without strikes.

“YES” vote means that you are giving the CWA Bargaining Team the power they need if things do not go well at the bargaining table. We have had a strong nationwide strike vote every time we’ve entered contract negotiations & we have not been on strike since 1986.

  • Vote “YES” to protect jobs

  • Vote “YES” to stop contracting & outsourcing

  • Vote “YES” to protect Active & Retiree Healthcare

You Can’t Win Alone, As a UNION We Can!
